SIMPLE DAILY HABITS FOR HEALTH, FITNESS AND WELLNESS (70 OF THEM!)

You can extend to a week if you’d prefer. Either way, the list was created to show you that there are many different little tweaks you can make to make a difference in your health and wellness. The Importance of Health and Fitness While Serving Your LDS Mission

As a Mormon Missionary, you are encouraged to share the gospel with your friends and neighbors. Your duty towards the church includes being sent out to LDS Missionaries all over the world on missionary work. This has always been the fundamental belief of the Church, which has the most active LDS Missionary programs than any other denomination. You may be assigned by the Church headquarters to serve your mission in any location across the globe, wherever government regulations permit. And because your assignment may last for two years, it is important that you take care of your health and remain fit throughout the mission.

As you enter your service calling as a full time LDS Missionary, you need to talk to people on the street, walk from door to door, and go biking throughout the day. This explains better the need of regular physical exercises that are essential for your well being. Workout schedules are sure to keep you away from the hospital and the surgical knives. With the right preparation Mormon Missionaries, young and old alike, benefit from a regimen of exercise and healthy eating habits.

Even if you are a young missionary, you cannot afford to put your health and fitness routine on the back burner. As an LDS Missionary, walking six miles every day and riding a bicycle 12 miles is what you are expected to do. If you aren’t fit, then blisters on your toes and ‘saddle sore’ from cycling are what you will encounter. This is most discouraging and you won’t be able to accomplish much missionary work in this condition.

To keep yourself fit, you ought to establish a regular regimen of aerobic exercise. Include walking, jogging, and running to get your body used to the increased activity since your call to serve as a LDS Missionary involves a great deal of physical activity. It is recommended that you follow the routine of “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise”.

As per the Missionary Department, LDS Missionaries are required to have a BMI or body mass index not greater than 37. Staying well under this limit will keep you active throughout your mission service. Keep yourself well groomed at all times. Stick to a proper diet of protein and fiber, and drink plenty of water. Consumption of lean meat, vegetables, and fruit are highly recommended.

There are some LDS Missionary Workout Programs designed to keep you totally fit. You can utilize the 30 minutes set by the leaders of the church to work on your muscle groups and experience a good cardio workout as well. You can perform several bodyweight exercises without the use of any equipment. The program includes 630 different workouts that cover each day of your mission. Follow these routines and will notice an improvement in your physical and emotional strength. What’s more is that it will encourage you to continue with your LDS mission and serve the Lord and His children.

How to Give a Health Or Grocery Store Tour to Clients

Nutrition, health, and fitness coaches provide an invaluable service to their clients. Clients who have a coach are much more likely to improve their health on a permanent basis due to the amount of support and motivation they receive from their coach. There is a huge demand for health coaches, and more nutrition and fitness coaches have entered the job market.

As a new health or fitness coach, a popular service is to take clients to the grocery or health food store to demonstrate how to shop for healthy foods, make wise food choice decisions, read a label, and determine the difference between a good choice and choices which don’t support a healthy body. A successful and helpful tour requires a few elements.

1. Variety: The health food store tour should cover all the sections of the store, produce, meat, fish, bulk, dairy, condiments, snacks, cereals, sweeteners, flours, bread, cookies, etc.

2. Advice: The client should be advised how to make their own determination between a healthy and not so healthy choice. Illustrate how to read a label and what to look for when making decisions.

3. Choices: Be sure to show the client which healthy foods you and your other clients have found to be both healthy and delicious as alternatives to foods they may be currently eating. Give them tips for transitioning to a healthy diet.

4. Reference: A grocery store tour can be an overwhelming amount of information for a client to digest in one hour. Be sure to have a reference guide to give to clients to refer back to at a later date.

The health food store tour is one of the most enjoyable and effective tools a health coach can utilize to support a client in transitioning to a healthier lifestyle.

How Do Gyms And Health Clubs Work?

The title may sound like a foolish question, but a little more thought starts to trigger all sorts of concerns in your mind about the possibilities regarding the running of a health club facility. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes of running such club. But, you’ll find some essentials that occur with each one.

A business Plan

First of all, it’s quite important to remember that although a ‘sport health club’ seems like the place where you go to so that you can exercise and relax, it is still very much a company at its center. In order to be a successful company you need a business plan. The business plan for a fitness club consists of several aspects that define the way the company will operate, but mainly outlines the fact that a health club offers a service to its customers, of which they pay for the service on a month-to-month foundation. These monthly fees finance the business and help predict future financial success.

A Franchise Or A Chain?

Once a business plan has been established for the up and coming gyms, the next thing is to determine whether the business will create facilities for itself to run, or whether the health club brand and business plan will be sold-out as an element of a franchise. This is a main decision that must be decided in the beginning as it’s going to significantly impact such business.

A franchise is helpful for a start-up health center that wants to expand its brand as quickly as possible, with the least expensive capital investment necessary. The investment will come from franchisees, who wish to buy-in to the business, and they will also bear the health center’s branding and adopt its business plan.

A health club chain is a likely approach for companies or large groups of investors wishing to start a fitness club business. They’re the only owners of the business and reap all the profits while putting of all the investments required.

Marketing And Advertising

The marketing budget for a brand new fitness center chain or franchise should be large enough to finance considerable initial marketing campaigns. Promotions are run to attract new customers to come and sign up for the club, with the possibility of lower membership fees so that you can undercut your competitors and consequently ignite interest in the fitness center being created.

The competition for health club facilities is on the rise so you want to make sure your ad campaign is imaginative.

Available Services

The services that fitness clubs offer should be hospitable in their very nature. Customer service is at the forefront of any business that handles, and provides services directly to, the customer. Whether or not you are a start-up health club or one seeking to retain customers you need to bear this in mind.

There are many diverse types of services that a fitness center can offer its subscribers. Things such as weight rooms, spa areas complete with saunas and massage therapy, gym facilities, and even a cafe with health food. The purpose is to make such a business a one stop health and fitness center.

With a facility this size offering this many services to its customers it’s understandable that you are going to need a big staff. You’ll need everything from fitness trainers to workers to man the front desk. As a result, staff expenses are one of the biggest long run costs for the business.

Health and Fitness Tips – We All Could Use a Little Help

Through the consistent use of the following health and fitness tips hopefully I can aid you, even if just a little bit, to stay on track with your health and fitness goals. To remain fit and healthy is never an easy thing but by utilizing these tips hopefully you will remain accountable to yourself.

We all know that when we start down a path to regaining our health, that the path is riddled with detours and it is easy to get off track. So to stay on track I recommend some sort of tracking system. I know that recording your stats seems like a tedious thing to do but, if you do not know where you have been how do you know where you are going?

In the past I have used a simple spreadsheet for recording my daily weight, workout routine, and all the meals and calories that were consumed. In addition I added charts that utilized the data that was input into the sheets to use as a visual aid to make sure that I am trending in the direction of my health and fitness goals. You can do this even if you do not have a computer or do not know how to make a spreadsheet. Simply use a notebook and some graph paper.

It is amazing how a simple graph can reveal habits that otherwise would have remained undetected. For instance, I found that without fail I would eat healthy meals in my target calorie allotment for 7-10 days and then I would binge and consume enough calories for 2 days in one sitting. After discovering this trend it was easily corrected by increasing my daily calorie intake just a little bit, so I did not feel the need to "pig out" once a week.

The next health and fitness tip is to set realistic goals and to put them in writing. I think that it is very important to put into writing what you would like to accomplish. You should write down your goal in your own handwriting and post it in at least 3 different places so that you will see it throughout your day. This serves as a gentle reminder and will help aid as a deterrent for neglecting your plan.

When stating your goal start out with a short timeline, attain that goal and write out the next one for a lengthier period. Your goal should be measurable and attainable. This is when you need to be honest with yourself and set realistic goals but be careful not to be too easy on yourself.

The last health and fitness tip is to run away from processed foods like the plague. Somebody once said that staying fit is 90% nutrition and 10% exercise. Think about it for a second. Most people eat 3-4 times a day and when you contrast that to how much we exercise it does make some sense. So my tip is to make the eating thing easier on you by simply staying away from processed and packaged foods. Choose healthful foods instead. Once you get into the habit of making your own meals with preferably organic, naturally raised and grown whole foods, you will find that it does not take much time at all. By eating these types of foods you will probably be eating healthier than you usually do. Keep in mind that portion size is a big thing also. In time you would not even crave those bad foods anymore.

Hopefully these few tips will help you to stay on track with your plan. Good luck and be healthy.

Types of Mental Health Services

In the last few years we have gained awareness of the various needs that individuals with mental health issues need in order to achieve overall well-being. Many times, we talk about the importance of medication, individual counseling, family counseling, and, socialization.

Those are all of extreme importance when it comes to mental health but the one service that seems to be forgotten is care management. A lot of people attribute care management services to individuals who are aging or who have chronic medical conditions. Although, care management can be very helpful for those issues, we also see a huge need for intense care management for individuals who have a chronic mental illness and cannot get access to any services. It is not a secret that severe and persistent mental illness like schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, and major depression can require intense care management and advocacy.

Just as a refresher, the duties of a mental health care manager include:

  • Acting as a connector between the individual and the community resources
  • Advocating on behalf of the individual so that he or she gain access to needed quality services
  • Overseeing the care of an individual including medication management, doctors' appointments, therapy, psychiatric services, and anything else related to their care
  • Connecting the client's family to support services such as individual, family, or group counseling
  • Being an advocate if there is need for hospitalization to ensure the safety of the client and their family members
  • Facilitating access to needed benefits
  • Assisting the individual with navigating all the different services so that it does not become overwhelming for them
  • Crisis intervention
  • Alleviating family members of some stress regarding the care and wellbeing of their loved one
  • Coordinating for advanced planning for the individual
  • Connect individual with social services and programs
  • Any service that the person may need the care manager will make that connection.

As professionals in the field of mental health, we see that families with loved ones living with a mental health condition often want an immediate and instant "fix" for their family member. It is important for them to keep in mind, that a mental illness is a lot like a physical illness that needs constant care. This is not to say that you cannot live a "normal" life with a mental illness however extra care is needed. In addition, as family members it is important to remember that you also have a vital role in the recovery of your loved one. The more involved you are, the more likely your loved is to recover.

There is a lot of value in having a care manager involved in the care of your loved one with a mental illness. A care manager will initially do a full initial assessment of your loved one's needs and wishes and will explore what services can add value to the life their life. They will explore the physical, psychological, social, and emotional well-being of your family member and will assess for possible gaps that need to be filled. For example, your family member may be living with schizophrenia and has been in and out of the hospital while being non -compliant with medication. Once this happens we know that your loved ones has probably had many psychotic episodes resulting in severe impaired functioning. Therefore. he or she may need home care services to assist with activities of daily living such. However, every case is different some more severe than others.

Another common case for care management is one that your adult child has recently been diagnosed with a mental illness and you as parents / family members do not even know where to start. In cases like this, the care manager steps in and coordinates for all initial care. When this occurs we often see a sense of relief in our family members as they often will say "I do not even know how I would have started this process without you". A care manager is also a huge support system for the individual as they now know that they have an advocate overseeing their needs and wishes.

It is important to remember that living with a mental illness or having a family member with a mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. In addition, the diagnosis of a mental illness does not mean that the person's life is over as many people mistakenly think. We have worked with many individuals and their families as they cope with diagnoses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and many others. The beginning of the process is usually made up of what we like to call growing pains full of discomfort. It is important to note that many of our clients with these diagnoses live normal lives but are able to do so because they gained access to the resources in the community. One very important step is accepting the presence of this new diagnosis and what it may mean. Another important step is realizing that you may need the help of psychiatric and / or home care services. It is important to act as early as you can, as early intervention can lead to the best results.

Health and Fitness Tips – Staying Motivated

At the start of every new year many people start a new campaign to get in the best shape of their lives and although the intention is real enough, in reality many give up before the first month has even passed. So why is this the case? Maybe you can relate to this yourself. It seems that the more times you try and then give up, this somehow becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. So here are some health and fitness tips to keep you on track.

Health And Fitness Tips – Have a Definite Goal

Many of the great books on self motivation have a very common theme when it comes to success. Successful people seem to have a very definite purpose to their lives and this especially relates to top sportsmen and athletes. The idea of setting a goal is nothing new. However it is the way these are set that often can lead to your downfall. For instance, if you just say I would like to get fit or I am going to try a new exercise regime, this is not sending a strong message to your subconscious mind. In fact, it really is saying that you are not really serious in making the change. So try to be specific. Set timescales and definite goals such as, how much weight you will lose and by when.

Health And Fitness Tips – Keep A Journal

The technique of writing down your goals and then keeping a record of your progress is very powerful. It is a way of reinforcing your intentions and programming your mind to a new way of life. Try to attach an emotion of excitement to keeping these records. In this way you will not think of this as a chore but as a way of feeling good about the changes you are making. Emotion linked to a definite purpose is a powerful combination.

Health And Fitness Tips – Creative Visualization Techniques

I referred to the example of top sportsman and athletes. They seem to naturally use these techniques in taking them to the top. Many a gold medallist will tell you that they visualized over and over again, that moment when they hit the tape first and stepped up to the winners podium. Taking time to visualize your fitness goals and becoming emotionally attached to the outcomes will make your motivation come naturally. You will start to wake up energized with a sense of anticipation. Suddenly the thought of giving up will never enter your head as your new way of being has become part of you.

9 Overlooked Health and Fitness Tips

What are the best health and fitness tips? There are tons and tons of diets and exercise regimens online and in magazines.

It really can get overwhelming after a certain point. Here are nine simple tips to get you on the road to better health shortly:

#1) Focus on developing one habit at a time

If both your diet and exercise habits need changing, just pick one and focus on that. Do not try to tackle both at once. The success rate for trying to develop two habits at the same time is very low.

Then try to stick with your activity for for thirty days. Studies have shown that this is how long it takes for a habit to form. This is how to develop healthier habits.

#2) Exercise vigorously

Few things will make a difference in your overall health and mental outlook as exercise. In particular, intense workouts are the most effective.

Yes, it’s true that walking is better than doing nothing. However, sprinting is better still. Vigorous exercises have more health benefits.

They are superior for losing weight and seeing strength gains. In other words, ten minutes of sprinting beats forty five minutes of slow jogging any day.

#3) Stay active throughout the day

Also focus on staying active throughout the day-not just during your exercise time. This is particularly important if you sit a lot for work.

Simply getting up and doing pushups or jumping jacks every fifteen to twenty minutes will make a huge difference in your attitude and mental focus. Quick bursts of activity throughout the day are very important for staying alert and being productive.

#4) Keep it fun

A lot of people hate their exercise regime, which is why they ultimately quit. The key is making it enjoyable. This will help you become more motivated to exercise.

One thing you might want to do is take up a sport you’ve always wanted to try.

#5) Get a workout partner

If you have trouble sticking with someone, committing to exercise with someone can be effective for getting you to stick with it.

#6) Eat natural foods

Your food selection plays a huge role in how you feel. In general, raw foods are the way to go. This is because they are the easiest for the body to digest, and generally contain the most nutrients.

That’s why raw fruits and vegetables should be the staple of your diet. Make sure to eat vegetables raw. Many people cook them, but they lose most of their nutrients when you do this.

#7) Get more fresh air

Crack open a window at the office. Exercise outside if you can. The more fresh air you get, the better you will feel.

#8) Get eight hours of sleep a night

This makes a huge difference in your overall energy level. Many people operate on six hours or less. However, you will notice a huge difference in how you feel when you get more sleep.

#9) Avoid medications

Just about every prescription drug has harsh chemicals which cause serious side effects.

The bottom line: your health is not dependent on luck or genetics, as many people falsely believe. The vast majority of health problems people experience can be cured by simple diet and exercise changes. Implement these nine health and fitness tips, and you will see a huge difference in your overall health and vitality very shortly.
